Poorly researched report based on discredited allegations
8 June 2025
A recent report prepared for the French Interior Ministry contains false claims about our organisation based on recycled and discredited allegations. There is no evidence to substantiate it. The authors made no attempt to contact us and gave no opportunity to respond. Islamic Relief Worldwide firmly rejects these allegations.
We are a purely humanitarian organisation with over 40 years’ track record of delivering lifesaving aid to the world’s most vulnerable people – last year alone our work helped 14.5 million people in 38 countries.
The allegations contained in the report are not only false; they are an affront to our humanitarian values and to our staff working tirelessly worldwide to deliver food, medicine and water to people suffering from war, disasters and terrorism. Our own staff and the communities we serve have been victims of terrorist attacks.
We are fully committed to transparency and accountability. Over the past decade, Islamic Relief Worldwide has undergone more than 500 independent audits by leading global firms, donors and governments. Not one has found any evidence of links to any political or proscribed group, or of our funds being used for anything but humanitarian purposes.
We serve people of all faiths and none, working in strict accordance with humanitarian principles. We have been trusted for more than 40 years by governments, United Nations agencies and global institutions to deliver aid on their behalf. The report takes umbrage with the fact that funders have included the European Union. That funding has directly saved lives by supporting drought-affected farmers in Ethiopia and helping villages in Bangladesh recover from cyclones.
For years we have been targeted by a well-documented and coordinated disinformation campaign. This has been thoroughly disproven by experts and independent investigations. The campaign directly threatens the lives of our humanitarian workers worldwide. It is extremely disappointing to see the French Ministry of Interior repeat such claims without evidence.
We hope the French Interior Ministry will respond to reason and afford us the opportunity to have our case properly heard.
