Scams and fraud
Islamic Relief often appeals for funds to support our ongoing projects or help us respond to new emergencies, and we are thankful to our supporters who generously respond.
Unfortunately, sometimes people who have no connection to Islamic Relief use our name and logo to fraudulently try to raise funds for their own purposes Other scammers may pretend to be Islamic Relief to try and obtain personal or financial information.
We try to do everything we can to stop scammers impersonating Islamic Relief, but this is not always possible. If you see or receive any request for money that you believe may not be genuine, please report it to us here: https://islamic-relief.i-sight.com/portal.
Here are some recent examples of fraudulent activity:
Gaza
Aid Gaza
During the ongoing Gaza crisis, we have been made aware of a site called Aid Gaza, which claims to be an ‘Islamic Relief initiative’. This is an independent site with no links to Islamic Relief, and we do not know where any donations made through this site will go.
Reach Out to Gaza
We are also aware of an Arabic site called ‘Reach Out to Gaza’ that has utilised Islamic Relief branding and images. The site is a very convincing spoof site, but is not linked to Islamic Relief, and we do not know where donations made through this site will go.
You can donate to Islamic Relief’s Palestine Emergency Appeal here.
Uganda
There have been several social media accounts purporting to raise funds for ’Islamic Relief Uganda’. Islamic Relief does not currently have any presence in Uganda, and we are not raising funds there. Anything claiming to be Islamic Relief Uganda is not genuine. If you would like to donate to support vulnerable people in Uganda we urge you to look for other charities who have projects there, including many of our Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) partners.
Similar scams may reference other countries where Islamic Relief does not have a presence. You can find a list of the countries where Islamic Relief does operate here.
Telegram and WhatsApp groups
We are aware that there are groups on instant messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram which use the name ‘Islamic Relief’ or our logo, purporting to be run or endorsed by Islamic Relief. Neither Islamic Relief nor its member offices utilise these platforms to promote or communicate with supporters. Islamic Relief does not endorse or lend its name to any commercial products, investment schemes or similar offerings found on these platforms. We would encourage anyone who wishes to donate to Islamic Relief to use only official websites. Should you wish to engage with us, please do so through our website, or the different social media platforms listed below:
Jobs
Islamic Relief never charges any recruitment fees to job applicants. If someone claiming to be a recruiter ever asks you to make a payment as part of the application process, this is not genuine. Please report any such requests to https://islamic-relief.i-sight.com/portal.
