The blessed month of Ramadan is a time of giving and compassion. As Muslims around the world fast from dawn to dusk, we are reminded of the millions of people across the world experiencing hunger and thirst. This Ramadan, Islamic Relief’s annual food parcel distribution is ensuring Lebanese families have food to break their fast with.

In Lebanon, thousands are in need of humanitarian aid following more than a year of bombardment by Israel. Despite the ceasefire implemented on 27 November, many farming families from border villages in the south have not been allowed to return home and remain displaced. Some 90% of farmers have not been able to access their land and animals, limiting people’s access to food. To help families impacted by this, Islamic Relief is delivering food parcels as part of our annual Ramadan programme.

Many families have also been struggling to cope with the fallout from a years-long economic crisis. Approximately 80% of the population are now below the poverty line, limiting their ability to provide their families with food for suhoor and iftar.

So far, we have distributed almost 4,000 food parcels, including in El-Mina, a coastal city in Tripoli, North Lebanon. We have also arranged to deliver parcels in Saida, Mount Lebanon and Bekaa.

Each food pack contains staple items tailored to local needs, including lentils, ghee, bulgur, chickpeas and hummus. These parcels are designed to provide for an average family of 4-5 people throughout Ramadan by providing essential and nutrient-rich ingredients.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever gives food to a fasting person to break his fast, he will have a reward like theirs, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest.”
This Ramadan, you can earn multiplied blessings by supporting Islamic Relief to continue providing for those in need in need in Lebanon and beyond. Please donate today.
