With your support, Islamic Relief will distribute qurbani meat to some of the worldās poorest families this Eid.
Omanovic Hanife and her husband were among the nearly 23,000 people in Bosnia and Herzegovina that we reached last Eid al-Adha.
āMy husband is a pensioner and we survive mostly on his pension,ā says Omanovic, 88. āWe also benefit from a local food kitchen for vulnerable people.
āWe have always had to live hard, but now itās even more difficult. Our pension is spent on medicines and paying our bills. It is impossible for us to afford meat. We place our trust in Allah.ā
Omanovic and her husband suffered terribly during the Bosnian War in the 90s.
āWe lost everything we had. Our house was knocked down and our son was killed in one of the camps. We were made refugees and only returned in 2002 – even then we lived in a tent for six months,ā she says.
Islamic Relief was one of the first international aid agencies to respond when the war broke out. Weāve continued to help vulnerable people in Bosnia and Herzegovina ever since, including through our annual qurbani programme.
āEid al-Adha is a time when the family is together, but this has not been the case for us for many years. Due to the war, our neighbours are no longer here and our children are struggling [to make ends meet] in other cities.ā
The qurbani meat pack the couple received brought respite from hard living, as well as the joy of welcoming visitors to their home.
āPeople seldom come and visit us now. We are happy and grateful that Islamic Relief has come to see us during Eid al-Adha. Weād like to thank everyone who participates in this good work. May Allah reward you all.ā
Omanovic and her husband receive their qurbani meat.
