Islamic Relief welcomes the ceasefire in Gaza, where we have been providing food and medical supplies to assist families suffering amid the violence.
“The ceasefire offers much-needed respite from the violence in Gaza,” says Muneeb Abu-Ghazaleh, country director for Islamic Relief in Gaza. “But there can be no doubt that this is only a temporary measure – it is not a lasting solution that will prevent future escalations.”

The violence has been the most destructive in months, with many residential buildings taking significant damage
The most recent escalation of violence – lasting 5 days and killing 33 Palestinians, including young children, and 2 Israelis – has been the most destructive in many months.
Residential and commercial buildings, hospitals, schools and some important infrastructure, have all been reported to have suffered extensive damage. This has left another 1,000 Palestinians internally displaced, according to the United Nations, adding to the 6,000 individuals already uprooted in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
The latest round of violence has compounded the issues the people of Gaza are already facing, with no freedom of movement, and crucial infrastructure such as healthcare, electricity, sanitation having all but collapsed.
Working through our local partners, we have so far supplied over 1,000 fresh food parcels to vulnerable families in the southern governate of Khan-Younis. The parcels include nutritious food including cucumber, potatoes and onions, apples and oranges, alongside staple foods such as eggs and chicken. The food packages are designed to feed a family of 5 for a week, and help support farmers in selling their products.
Islamic Relief have provided essential medical supplies to hospital emergency departments across the Gaza Strip. We have also supplied medicine for primary emergency treatment, as well as supplies for intensive care units and surgical rooms.

Islamic Relief will continue to support the recovery efforts of Palestinians after the latest round of violence, which is expected to further deepen needs in Gaza, where 1.3 million people are already in need of humanitarian aid. Decades of blockade and occupation, coupled with recurring conflict, has created widespread poverty, crippled essential services, and left many Palestinians reliant on humanitarian organisations such as Islamic Relief for survival.
For years Islamic Relief has called on the world to act to stop more ordinary people from losing their lives. We continue to call on the international community to bring forward a process that addresses the root causes of the crisis.
“The Israeli blockade of Gaza, and the wider illegal occupation of Palestinian territory must end. A lasting solution rooted in international law and justice for all is needed now, more desperately than ever.”
Islamic Relief have been on ground in the Occupied Palestinian Territory since 1997, providing families with essential daily assistance such as food, cash, shelter and clean water. From our office in Gaza we also support schools and hospitals, help young people build livelihoods, and assist vulnerable children and widowed mothers.
We will continue to closely monitor the fragile situation and work with our local partners to support the recovery of Palestinians in Gaza. Please support our life-saving work: donate to our Palestine Emergency Appeal now.
