Flooding and landslides caused by heavy rainfall has killed at least 51 people in Bangladesh.
Millions of people have been affected as prolonged monsoon rains across the country since 5 July have caused widespread destruction, including the capital Dhaka.
There has been extensive damage done to vital infrastructure and to homes. The floods have had a significant impact on already vulnerable households, particularly those who depend on agriculture and fisheries. Large swathes of cropland have been flooded leaving thousands without homes and without livelihoods.
Transport and communication networks have been heavily damaged, complicating relief operations and limiting access to vulnerable populations.
The situation remains particularly concerning in Chattogram Division, Cox’s Bazar, the hill districts and parts of Sylhet, where hundreds of thousands of people have been stranded by floodwaters.
