Since she lost her husband in the Yemen conflict, Hana and her 2 children live with her father, mother, sisters and brothers. Her father, alongside Islamic Relief, is Hana’s sole source of income.
Like so many vulnerable people across Yemen, Hana has suffered hugely. “This war is so vicious. It cost me a lot. I lost my husband, my brother and 5 cousins, all of whom were killed.”
The crisis in Yemen continues to rage with no end in sight to the suffering, instability and deprivation of the Yemeni people. Approximately 80% of the population needs humanitarian aid and most people do not know where their next meal is coming from.
“All we can say is Alhamdulillah. We are doing our best to earn enough money to make a living, although there is no work. We are just relying on Allah.”
Hana’s children are enrolled in Islamic Relief’s Orphan Sponsorship programme, which enables them to go to school. “Alhamdulillah, both of my children are clever and doing well in their classes.”
Despite this support, Hana faces a daily struggle to keep her children healthy. Rising food prices are causing the humanitarian situation to deteriorate still further. Qurbani meat distributions provide a vital source of protein for her family. “I’m facing many difficulties to get money… if I didn’t receive qurbani meat from Islamic Relief, we wouldn’t be able to eat meat during this Eid.”

Coming to an Islamic Relief distribution point to collect her family’s qurbani meat, Hana and her daughter have their hands sanitised as part of our measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19
In Yemen, Hana’s story is all too familiar. The rate of child malnutrition is among the highest in the world, including half a million children who face severe acute malnutrition, a life-threatening condition.
Distributed through Islamic Relief, your qurbani means relief from hunger for families like Hana’s.
“Eid is the most beautiful day in the whole year. I wake up early to prepare breakfast for my children and draw the happiness on their faces.”
In 2022, qurbani distributions will aim to reach more people than ever before, providing a vital source of food and offering crucial solidarity and hope. Please help us to draw happiness on the faces of millions of children on the blessed days of Eid.
