Islamic Relief has delivered a message of peace in conflict-torn Central African Republic (CAR), in a project that saw 1,000 vulnerable families receiving food parcels.
Fighting has driven one in five of the population from their home in CAR, a country in which one million people are food insecure. More than 500,000 people are still displaced and face an uncertain future.
In a distribution in Ouanga, on the outskirts of the country’s capital city, Bangui, Islamic Relief provided food parcels to displaced families as well as children orphaned or separated from their parents during the violence.
Mother-of-three Valerie Panika was amongst those to receive a foodpack, which was provided as an Eid gift and included rice, pasta, oil, tomato paste, sardines, coffee and tea.
Valerie and her daughters are waiting to rebuild their lives
Valerie’s husband was killed as conflict raged in Bangui, and she and her daughters fled to a nearby military compound. Valerie and her children now live with her brother and sister and their families – and they do not know when they will be able to begin rebuilding their lives.
“Thank you for what you have provided us here today, we are so glad you have come,” said Valerie. “After what has happened, we need support in every area to get back on our feet. I hope you are able to continue to help us.”
Humanitarian aid and lasting peace is needed
Islamic Relief is working with partners in CAR, and through our programmes in nearby countries, to help families that are suffering amidst the fighting. Our work includes supporting Child Friendly Spaces for thousands of vulnerable children, distributing food to Muslim and Christian families affected by the violence, and helping refugees seeking safety in the camps of Chad.
We also continue to contribute to inter-faith efforts to secure an end to the fighting and to promote lasting peace.
With your support, we can reach many more vulnerable people that have lost everything in this conflict. Please donate to our Appeal for the People of CAR today.
