Islamic Relief has reacted with sadness to yesterday’s air crash outside Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The tragedy took the lives of 189 people, some of whom were staff and delegates of the United Nations Environment Assembly which has begun today in Nairobi, Kenya.
Islamic Relief staff attending the Assembly from East Africa and the UK are safe. They this morning joined others in prayer and a moment of silence for those who lost their lives at a specially convened plenary of the conference this morning.
Islamic Relief’s thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends and colleagues of those died.
The Environment Assembly is the world’s highest-level decision-making body on the environment. Taking part in the fourth meeting of the Assembly, UNEA-4, Islamic Relief will contribute our experience and expertise to efforts to address the critical challenges facing the world today.
