Hundreds of refugee and poor Jordanian families have received essential items and cash support to help them keep warm during the winter.
Every winter, Islamic Relief Jordan distributes aid to help vulnerable people survive harsh weather conditions.
“God only knows the life inside Gaza camp,” Noura, a Palestinian refugee, told the Islamic Relief team. “You will definitely know the true meaning of cold once you enter our homes.
“No carpets, wet mattresses and humidity. If you want to feel warm for a while, the fumes from the old firewood heater give you breathing difficulties.”
This year, through generous funding from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), distributions will reach 612 refugee families as well as poor Jordanian households.
The first distribution has now taken place, reaching 200 families in Al Mafraq city. Gas cylinders and refill vouchers were provided, as well as clothing vouchers and 100 JOD cash assistance.
“I can’t remember when I last bought new clothes for my children, so today when I noticed the clothes voucher, happiness filled my heart,” added Noura.
