After more than 10 years of conflict, millions of people in Yemen have been left not knowing where their next meal is coming from. A staggering 80% of the population live below the poverty line, struggling with the financial strain a decade of devastating conflict has inflicted on them.
Sabah, a mother of 3, is among those worrying about how to put food on the table during Ramadan.
Her job as a housemaid barely provides enough money for her to pay for everything her family needs. Some months, she is forced to choose between food or medicine, a situation made more urgent due to her son, Mustafa, who suffers from seizures.
“Every day is a struggle to make ends meet,” Sabah says.
“When we can’t afford food or water, our lives come to a standstill. The stress becomes overwhelming, especially when my children need medicine and I have nothing to offer them. It affects everything – our health, our energy, even our hope.”
Easing the burden
In 2025, Islamic Relief delivered food packs to more than 60,000 people in Yemen, through our Ramadan food distribution project. Containing food staples such as flour, cooking oil, pasta and beans, these food packs help alleviate the pressures that vulnerable families face at an important time of year.
“We don’t have a consistent or rich diet, but the food basket from Islamic Relief helps a lot. It provides essential items we wouldn’t be able to afford otherwise,” Sabah says.
“It makes a real difference during Ramadan and even after it ends. It brings us nutrition and peace of mind.”
“The pack covered many of our basic food needs, allowing me to use what little money I had for medicine and rent. I deeply thank the donors and Islamic Relief. Their support truly eases our burden.”
This Ramadan you can help us reach even more people like Sabah and her children. Don’t hesitate, people need your help more than ever. Donate generously in the blessed month of Ramadan.
