Islamic Relief Worldwide is looking to recruit a Senior Humanitarian Advisor, based in our office in London or Birmingham. The Senior Humanitarian Advisor will strengthen the quality and impact of Islamic Relief’s work, through informed development of policy and strategy for its humanitarian operations. S/he will take a lead in the design of humanitarian advocacy programmes through informed research, policy and programme analysis. You will engage at policy level with leading international and national institutions and stakeholders. S/he will advise and support programme teams in Islamic Relief to ensure humanitarian policies are widely implemented.
The Senior Humanitarian Advisor will review disaster response systems as and when necessary to ensure good practice is upheld throughout the humanitarian department and offices which are under the humanitarian department’s management. You will lead on the collection of impact and outcome data to enable the aggregation of information on IR’s global humanitarian operations. During an emergency response you will travel to the disaster / emergency affected area as part of a first or second wave of deployment and plan and undertake evaluations, programme reviews and strategy support so as to inform programme or managerial decision-making.
The successful candidate will have a Masters in Disaster Management, Development Studies, International Relations or other relevant subject or related field. However, significant related experience may be considered. In addition, a high level of computer literacy, plus experience of using spreadsheets and accounting software is essential. The successful candidate will have a strong experience of policy analysis on humanitarian issues and experience of working in emergency response operations in difficult, challenging environments (at least three years). You will have excellent communication skills in English and IT skills with proven research, data collection, collating, writing and presentation skills. The successful candidate will have excellent analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative. The role requires high level analysis and evaluation of complex information or systems at a strategic level.
