As the appearance of the hilal, the new crescent moon that heralds the beginning of Ramadan, fast approaches, it is time to start looking ahead to the most important time of the year.
Throughout the holy month of Ramadan, the blessings and impact of your zakat donations are even greater. With your support, we can improve the lives of vulnerable communities around the world, easing their suffering during this sacred month.

“The Ramadan food pack helped us more than words can express. We had nothing in the house, and honestly, we didn’t know how we would make it through the month.”
Dahabo, 55, received food packages through the Ramadan programme in Kenya
Ramadan holds deep meaning for millions of Muslims around the world. It is characterised by fasting from dawn till dusk, performing extra rituals, and breaking the fast with iftar meals in a shared celebration.
Healthy adult Muslims will fast during the day, this involves abstaining from eating and drinking as well as immoral acts and anger. Other acts of worship encouraged during the holy month include prayer, reading the Qur’an and making charitable donations, such as zakat.
While Ramadan brings joy, millions will mark it amid ongoing conflict, economic instability, climate shocks, and rising food and energy prices. Many won’t know where their next meal is coming from or how they will break their fast.
Throughout Ramadan, we’ll be sharing stories of how your generous donations have helped vulnerable communities across the world.
“When we receive a food parcel, we feel some relief, and it brings joy to our children. In these difficult times, such aid gives us hope and reminds us that someone cares.”
The Ramadan programme helped Umm Issa and her children through Ramadan in 2025

Last year, your donations helped us deliver more than 155,000 food parcels to families across 32 countries, benefitting some 840,000 people. Our aim is to help ease short-term hunger, boost nutrition, and enable our supporters to fulfil their religious obligations with dignity and joy.
These food packages can make all the difference to families who don’t know where their next meal is coming from.

“The help wasn’t just food, it was also a feeling of support from people outside, and that’s very important in these times.” Islamic Relief’s Ramadan distribution programme from providing is providing some relief to families like Akram’s, struggling to survive events in Gaza
