Islamic Relief Worldwide commits £500,000 to aid thousands of Palestinian families in Gaza and provide Iftar meals to impoverished Egyptian families, in Ramadan partnership with Misr El Kheir Foundation.
Cairo, Egypt: Islamic Relief Worldwide’s CEO, Iftikhar Shaheen, visited Egypt this week to strengthen the charity’s humanitarian partnership with Misr El Kheir Foundation. Mr Shaheen attended the launch of Misr El Kheir’s Ramadan Campaign and pledged GBP£500,000 to support distributions in Gaza and Egypt. He also held a separate meeting with the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Egypt.

The Ramadan Campaign was launched at Abdeen Palace in Cairo, with senior representatives from both organisations and the Egyptian government in attendance. The campaign aims to provide assistance to vulnerable families during the holy month and Islamic Relief’s contribution will provide food parcels and other vital aid to thousands of Palestinian families in Gaza, as well as providing community Iftar meals to impoverished Egyptian families.
On 20 January, H.E. Mark Bryson-Richardson, the UK’s Ambassador to Egypt, received a joint delegation from Islamic Relief Worldwide and Misr El Kheir Foundation at the British Embassy in Cairo. The meeting focused on the growing partnership between the two organisations and the regional response to the crises in Gaza and Sudan. The Misr El Kheir Foundation delegation was led by Eng. Amal Mobadda, Chief Executive Officer for Resource Development, while the Islamic Relief Worldwide delegation was headed by Mr. Iftikhar Shaheen, Chief Executive Officer.
Iftikhar Shaheen said: “It was a privilege to attend the launch of the Ramadan Campaign in Cairo, and I am proud to pledge support from Islamic Relief to ensure that thousands of vulnerable families in Gaza and Egypt can have nutritious food to break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan. I was also honoured to meet with the British Ambassador to Egypt and discuss the ongoing crises in Sudan and Gaza, and ways to strengthen the international response.”
Islamic Relief Worldwide and Misr El Kheir Foundation signed a formal partnership in December 2024 and have since worked together on humanitarian and development programmes.
