The fallout continues, with a cloudburst on 18 August in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), leaving approximately 17 people dead, numerous individuals missing, and widespread damage.
Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority has warned of a further 3 intense monsoon spells in the upcoming weeks, with rainfall forecasted to be up to 50% above average.
There is heightened risk of urban flooding in Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Gujranwala. Southern districts including Karachi and Hyderabad are under flood alert, with up to 100 mm of rain expected on 22 August.
Delivering life-saving aid
We are providing aid to remote and hard-hit areas including Buner, Swat and Shangla, KP, where access is severely restricted by damaged roads and communications networks.
With electricity and internet down in several areas, our teams are working side-by-side with authorities to rescue stranded families, and provide hot meals, canned food and clean drinking water.
As well as delivering clean water and hundreds of food packs, Islamic Relief has also distributed 100 tarpaulin sheets to affected families.
