Islamic Relief is preparing to respond to flooding in Yemen that has killed at least 64 people and affected almost 120,000.
Heavy rains since 21 August have triggered severe flash flooding across multiple governorates, prompting large-scale displacement and damage to infrastructure. Initial assessments indicate that 119,559 people have been affected. With more rainfall expected, the situation is likely to worsen.
Islamic Relief is coordinating with our partners and the cluster system in Yemen to reach people in the hardest-hit areas in the country’s north and south during this emergency.
Islamic Relief already operates in Hodeidah and Raymah governorates in the north and Aden and Lahj in the south, which are the areas most affected by the heavy rains and flooding.
We have mobilised emergency response teams and are conducting needs assessments in Aden, Lahj and Hodeidah. As part of our initial response, we plan to provide cash transfers to affected families, enabling them to buy what they most need.
