Ramadan in Pakistan has been a trying time in recent years. Several climate disasters have struck the country, impacting millions. Floods, droughts and earthquakes have all combined to leave families struggling to survive in precarious circumstances.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a region severely susceptible to climate shocks. In the summer of 2025, flash flooding triggered by days of heavy monsoon rains killed over 1,000 people.
Thousands more were displaced, disrupting livelihoods across the region.
Living in these conditions is difficult, as Shameem knows all too well.
“I work as a housekeeper to support my family and ensure they have food to live. However, the low wages make it extremely difficult to cover basic necessities like food, housing, and my children’s education,” the mother-of-3 shares.
“I struggle to pay school fees, uniforms, and supplies. Meeting even the most basic needs feels like a constant uphill battle.”
Providing for her family is tough for Shameem, and she often goes without food to ensure her children eat. This lack of food is only amplified during what is the most important time of the year for her small family.
“Ramadan is a very meaningful time for me and my family,” Shameem says.
“It’s a month of reflection and spiritual growth, but it also brings its challenges. With limited resources, it’s difficult to provide enough food for suhoor and iftar.”

“The food pack makes it easier to prepare proper meals for suhoor and iftar, especially when we’re already struggling to afford basics. It really lifts some of the burden during a very tough month.
“The package was very generous and sufficient to last for about 2 months. I would like to sincerely thank Islamic Relief for this generous gift of relief.”
