Gul Lakhta, 67, lives in Nissata village, Pakistan. Her four sons are all married and struggling to support their families on labourer’s wages, so there is little left over to provide for Gul and the daughter that lives with her.
Even at Ramadan, the household cannot afford to eat nutritious food – so the Islamic Relief food parcel they received in 2014 made a big difference.
“It will now be possible for my daughter to cook what she wants to eat,” said Gul, when she received the parcel. One of over 6,800 distributed by Islamic Relief in Pakistan last year, it was packed with staples including flour, cooking oil, pulses, sugar, salt and dates.
“After receiving these [food]packs, the poor people of the community will now enjoy good and healthy food. We are really thankful.”
