At least 2,200 people have been killed by the earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan on 31 August and the subsequent aftershocks.
The most severely impacted areas include Dugal and Mazar in Kunar and Nangarhar provinces, where entire villages have been reduced to rubble.
Nearly 6,800 houses have been destroyed, leaving thousands displaced.
Islamic Relief’s response
Islamic Relief is providing health services to those in need, including installing 8 emergency latrines and distributing 950 hygiene kits.
We have also delivered 43,000 ready-to-eat meals, and tents to over 1,000 families as a form of temporary shelter.
Sayed’s hometown, Wazir Abad village in Kunar province, was struck by the earthquake. His family members and belongings were buried under collapsed buildings.
“We carried the bodies of the dead, while organisations rushed the injured to the hospital.
“I kindly request your support in providing food and shelter for us, the survivors, during this difficult time,” Sayed says.

Sultan is from Nika village in Saukai District. Concerned for his relatives, he journeyed to their village to find 150 people had been killed by the earthquake.
“Please kindly support them with additional health facilities and provide them with shelters.
“These people have nothing right now, as they have lost everything they had,” says Sultan.
