Islamic Relief has been recognised for the excellence of its programmes in Iraqi-Kurdistan, in an information-sharing meeting with a fellow NGO.
A delegation from the Barzani Charity Foundation, which delivers humanitarian relief in the Kurdistan Regional Government area visited the UK offices of Islamic Relief Worldwide to convey their appreciation for our lifesaving programmes.
“I was delighted to welcome the Barzani Charity Foundation to our international office in the UK,” said Mehdi Ben Mrad, Director of International Programmes for Islamic Relief Worldwide.
“The needs in the Iraqi-Kurdistan region are deepening as the conflict in Iraq and in Syria continues, and humanitarian actors absolutely must work together to ensure that we use increasingly limited resources in the best possible way to help those most in need. This meeting was a great opportunity for the two organisations to share their experiences on the ground in Iraq.”
Iraqi-Kurdistan is currently home to a huge proportion of Syrian refugees as well many fleeing violence in Iraq. At present, some 5.2 million people in Iraq need humanitarian assistance, funding for humanitarian programmes is falling short, and there is no end to the fighting yet in sight.
Working from offices in Erbil, capital of Iraqi-Kurdistan, and Baghdad, we deliver development projects and provide extensive emergency relief programmes for families fleeing fighting in Iraq and neighbouring Syria. We work in all of the worst affected provinces. Already this year, we have helped in excess of 106,000 vulnerable people – and want to reach even more.
